Introduction
Celal Bayar University is founded on 11th June 1992.
While some academic units of Dokuz Eylül and Ege University were
joined to Celal Bayar University, some of the units were newly founded.
Manisa, Faculty of Administration is one of the main units that
were taken over from Dokuz Eylül University. Demirci Education
School was turned into Faculty of Education, Department of Physical
Education and Sports, which was formerly a part of Buca Faculty of
Education was turned into School of Physical Education and Sports,
and these two were joined to Celal Bayar University. Akhisar School
of Tobacco Expertship and Alaşehir Academy were taken over from Ege
University. In addition to these units, in the foundation law, it was
decided that Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Arts and Sciences,
Faculty of Engineering,School of Salihli, Institute of Social Sciences,
Institute of Science and Institute of Medical Sciences be founded.
With the protocol that was signed between The Ministry of Health
and YOK on 10th September 1992, Manisa School of Health Services
became an academic unit of our university.
Schools of Ahmetli, Demirci, Gölmarmara, Gördes, Kırkağaç,
Saruhanlı and Soma were established on 25.01.1994; Köprübaşı on
07.03.1994, and Turgutlu on 30.03.1994 and they began education in
the year 1995. In the city center of Manisa a school of health was
founded on 02.11.1996. Akhisar School of Applied Disciplines was
founded on 04.07.1997, School of Kula on 15.03.1999, School of
Akhisar on 26.05.2000, School of Sarıgöl on 07.07.2000.

Turkish History and Culture, Research Center of Manisa Region,
Turkish Handcrafts, Research Center of Environmental Problems,
Research Center of Computer, Research Center of LIE Group, CBU
Research Center of Balkan Studies, Research Center of Foreign
Languages were joint to the Rectorate
Celal Bayar University maintains its education and research
studies with 5 Faculties, 4 Schools, 15 School of Applied
Disciplines, 3 Institutes, 9 Research Centers and a research and
practice hospital, total 37 units. At the beginning of year
1993 our university had 5 professors, 2 associate professors,
13 assistant professors, 44 lecturers, 13 instructors, 16 research
assistants, 2 specialists, total 95 academic bodies. By August
2002, the sum of the academic personnel reached to 1011, with
57 professors, 70 associate professors, 210 assistant professors,
140 lecturers, 60 instructors, 421 research assistants, 53 specialists.
The Administrative body has reached to 669. With the arrival
of new students at the beginning of 2002-2003 education year,
total number of students has become 19000.
The Rector
The Rector, as chief officer of the University, presides over
the Senate and the University Executive Council. The chief executive
body of the University is the University Executive Council comprising
of deans and members elected by the University Senate. The Senate
is the principal academic body, comprising of deans, directors
of institutes and directors of schools, as well as members elected
by the faculties. Senate committees deal with a wide range of
subjects, but matters relating to teaching and examination are
also dealt with by the Boards of Faculties, Schools and Institutes.
Each Faculty, School or Institute has its own Council and Board.
