DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS
GENERAL INFORMATION
Economics is a fascinating subject, poised on the intersection between
social science and business, and with great relevance for a wide range
of public policy issues. Economics offers excellent preparation for
careers in business and government and for further graduate and
professional study. The undergraduate program in the Department
Economics at the Celal Bayar University enables students to think
critically about economic issues and participate in economic policy
debates. It also develops an understanding of businesses, markets, and
financial organizations. It prepares students for careers in business
and the public sector and establishes a foundation for graduate study in
economics and business.
At the graduate level, the Department of Economics offers Master and
Ph.D. degrees. These programs emphasize applied economics with areas of
specialization including econometrics, international economics and
development, labor economics, macroeconomics, and urban and regional
economics. The curricula provide students with a balance between a core
of microeconomic, macroeconomic, and econometric theory and a variety of
applied courses. These programs are designed to prepare individuals for
professional careers involving the application of economic analysis in
both the public and private sectors, including academia. A graduate
degree in economics offers a wide variety of career opportunities in
both the public and private sectors.
The Department of Economics offers mandatory extensive English
preliminary courses to be taken at the first year of the undergraduate
study and during the remaining four years, some portion of courses have
been thought in English.
